I just riveting conversation with Lindsay Shedden, Director of the Sled Island Festival. Sled Island is four days of music and arts festival in Calgary, which began in the summer, where hundreds of bands and artists get together to play at venues throughout the city.
History
Sled Island was founded in 2007 by Zak Pashak owner of a broken city, a local Calgary bar. When I asked how Lindsay Sled Island came around, she said that the idea of more beer. In the inaugural year, more than 6,000 fans came out to see local sensations (Chad VanGaalen, Woodpigeons, etc.) along with international bands (Spoon, Cat Power, Boredoms, etc.). There were 96 bands that played at several places that the first year and it was just the beginning. Sled Island has grown each year and an incredible line-up includes Mogwai, Wire, Deerhunter, breeders, Jose Gonzales, built to spill, and so much more.

They are expecting over 25,000 fans to see the 200 + artists are coming to Calgary for this year's Sled Island Music Festival, which will be played in more than 25 locations around the city. Acts this year include The Buzzcocks, Nina Dandy, sleeping, in Montreal, Kurt Vile and much more. To see all the great bands that come to check out the full line-up. Some of the thrill of the Olympic Plaza, Glenbow Museum, Republic, Royal Canadian Legion # 1, etc. There is a place for everything and see which areas are right for you. There's all kinds of music from hip hop punk, and all types of venue from clubs for all ages shows. And if music is your thing, there is no art, comedy and film. There is something for everyone.
With more than 200 bands that are coming into town, it is difficult to see them all so I asked an expert.

Lindsay:. Intelligence, Jim Ward, a Zola Jesus
Me:. These bands are a little more obscure than the Buzzcocks, or Montreal
Lindsay:. That's the beauty of this festival is to discover these amazing bands who have not heard before May
Me: What do you think is the best place
Lindsay:. I do not know about best, but I'm really excited about our new location this year Twisted element
Me: Who are the fans who come out of the Sled Island
Lindsay: Music lovers. And not just more Calgarians. People come from all over Canada. Vancouver, they like Sled Island.
Me: Are there going to be any surprises this year
Lindsay:. Yes, there will be a lot
