Rottnest Island is located 18 km off the coast of Western Australije.Jedini way to get there is by boat or plane, and there are numerous ferries that drive back and forth throughout the day. Private boats are also allowed to drive there, but it is advisable to have a boat that is reasonable and the verification time. The storm water can be very rough and dangerous for small boats. Rottnest Island is known worldwide for the little creatures that run around everywhere, known as Quokka's. Rottnest is home to several locals, but it is mainly a tourist destination, and for good reason. If you like Dunsborough, you will love Rottnest Island.
Regardless of the direction of the wind, you can always find a quiet bay to have a nice swim. There is so much to see underwater and on land! The island is about 11 kilometers, and has a bitumen road that leads around the coast. There are a large number of bays at Rottnest Island, including the Thompson Bay, Longreach Bay and Geordie Bay. The island is the amazing fishing and diving, as well as many places that you can sleep on board the ship (which explains why so many ships visit the island every year! Most residents in Perth are related to Rottnest Island as a 'Rott'
How to reach us
The cheapest and most popular way to get to Rottnest Island by ferry. Of course, if you own a boat or have a friend with a boat that is capable of driving across the island, by all means you can go with them. There are a large number of companies who operate ferries back and forth, including Rottnest Express and Oceanic Cruises. It's a good idea to shop around for tickets, though - some social clubs can get a discount. You'll pay more if you want your bike (which I highly recommend if you have a good bike), and if you want to take extra luggage along. Most ferries leave in Fremantle near the market, although some leave in Perth, and catching up with rijeku.Rottnest Island Ferry is only 15 to 25 minutes to get, so pretty soon
If you choose, you can fly over the plane. Obviously, though much more expensive and frankly not really worth the money (unless you have money to spare!) Time has a lot to see and Rottnest aerial is pretty cool. If you have a boat that is more than 16 feet, consider that over driving because you can go to each bay that you want and you'll have to swim as much if you decide to dive!
What's in Rottnest Island?
Rottnest has a lot of history, which explains why there is a museum that you can see, like many old bits and pieces. There is a train that will take you to the hill where a massive gun can be found. As you can see, the shells that were fired were enormous. Tours and train rides cost a few dollars each. In the middle of Rottnest, you can find a bakery that makes it very impressive food. Although it has gotten incredibly expensive over the past few years, can not leave without trying something Rott to the bakery! There is a grocery store, a few take away food stocks and children's playground and a park to relax in.
You are unlikely to encounter Quokka at some stage, running around everywhere. You are requested not to touch or feed them, but they are very friendly ball of fur! The best part about Rott in bays. Whether you are scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, surfing or simply relaxing on a quiet beach, you will find something to meet your needs! Something I highly recommend jumping on the bus service, which lasts around Rottnest Island all day long. You can buy all day tickets for about $ 12 dollars, and it is well spent. "Cells" can be found behind the bakery, near the public toilets.
This is a good idea to talk with the bus driver on the day to go out, because they will know where the best bays for that particular day. It is entirely dependent on where the wind comes, I can show you where the quiet bay. There are several dive trail is located on the island, which you can follow around and read while under water. There are a large number of fish and other animals to see, so they swim around and have a look. Note reefs are fragile, and stands on them can do enormous damage.
Cycling in the Rottnest
As you will see very soon, most transportation on the island is the humble push bike. There are only a few buses, and even fewer cars that are used on the island, so basically, or you drive or catch a bus. Driving around the island can be done in about half a day, but be aware that a lot of hills to climb! If you have your own bike, you can put it on the ferry. Alternatively, you can rent a bike on the island, but they only have one gear and tend to be worse than most people bike at home! If you take your bike, make sure you give it a good wash when you get home, because they often get very salty. If you leave it for several weeks, the rust will start to happen on a bike!
You can also hire a person to let you ride around the island of Rottnest, but it is very expensive and only for those who really can not be bothered! Personally, as someone who likes to be filleted and snorkeling gear together, like a bus. Sometimes it's crowded, but it beats struggling along on a bike with a half tons of equipment with them.
What else can you do?
There are several tours that you can go to Rottnest, or even use it to get to the island. In Perth you can book yourself snorkeling or scuba diving tours that take you over Rottnest, provide food and show you where the best diving spots are. Of course, these are more expensive than taking the ferry, but often worth it. If you swim from the shore, you are limited entry points, while in the boat, you can jump into any gdje.Ture will usually take you to the island for a few hours to grab food, and if you want! As Lancelin, there are really some awesome snorkeling spots on the Rott, but you have to go on tour or have your own boat to find them!
to give up on Rottnest
This is a very important point for those wishing to travel to the Rottnest Island in the last half of the year! Give up is an event that happens every year at the end of school exams. The whole island is basically closed to the public and open only to give up (which are 17 and 18 years of age). In 2009 the island was closed in the last third of November, but the dates change from year to year, depending on the exam schedule.
Accommodation in Rott
There are many different units and cottages that look over the beach, and the barracks (caravans), hotel and Rottnest home. I've only ever stayed in the barracks, which is located outside the city, a little more secluded. It is close to the beach, but not so convenient if you want to duck to the shop, not as you can get in the car and drive down there!
for an incredibly fun you can have on Rottnest Island, there are often days when thousands of people will visit. Be aware of it, and pick your time. Time, you can usually find a quiet beach area to relax in. The accommodation is usually more expensive during school holidays, and much busier. Make sure you book your accommodation early, and also ferry trips. Do not expect to come in and buy a ticket on the spot, because on a busy day ferry will be full already. Rottnest Island has to be one of the best destinations that you can travel for the day or even a short break. If you've been before, leave a comment about what you enjoyed most for others to see!
